Tips To Finish Your Modern Garden

Modern Garden

Did you start a project to make your garden look more modern, only to find that it has kind of stalled? It can happen to anyone, and when it is linked to finishing a modern garden, it is usually due to becoming a bit stuck with what to do with the space.

Creating a modern garden is much more than clean lines and a few plants. There are finishing touches to bring something to the space that is stunning, without being predictable. If you have all the paths laid out and you have your plants chosen, here are some tips to help you finally finish your modern garden design.

Pool Fencing

If you are lucky enough to have a pool in your back garden, why not add a modern twist to it by having a glass pool fence installed? This will add a simple yet bold statement to your garden, while also being a safety feature, if you have kids, as these fences can be locked. They also prevent blind spots in the outdoor space, making them a great addition if you have a garden CCTV camera.

Ambient Lighting

A dark garden is a garden with wasted potential, especially if you have invested in furniture, ornaments, and new fencing. A touch of lighting can add ambiance to your garden space and improve the usability of the space after dark. Try to get your hands on low-voltage, LED up lights to highlight features of your garden, like large plants, and ornaments, or even add them to paths, to define the space from the path border.

Modern Outdoor Furniture

When choosing your outdoor or garden furniture, you will want your choice to complement the space, without feeling or looking cluttered. With modern options, stick to sleek, simple options, with an emphasis on base materials like metal or weather-resistant composites. For an even more modern theme, stick to greys, black, or white, and throw in some cushions or covers that are brightly colored.

Minimalist Planting

A garden with a modern theme isn’t overloaded with plants, so you will need to choose a few minimalist-design friendly plants, usually with a limited color palette, or even structural plants, being ideal. Look into clipped hedges, succulents, and ornamental grasses, as all of these plant types look amazing, but are not high maintenance. If you want to be extra, you can group these plants in geometric layout patterns in planters or, if you are a bit short on space, why not go for a small, vertical garden?

Statement Features

These were briefly mentioned earlier, but to complete your modern garden, you should look into having one statement feature that defines the outdoor space. In modern gardens, this can be anything from an iron firepit, a water feature, or, of course, a sculpture. If you are going for a water feature, try to get one that is solar-powered, as that will minimize the installation process and, if you are splashing out on a sculpture, be sure to give it space and its own uplighting if you can.
