Parenting is a journey to say the least. There are all sorts of things to do day in and day out, from making meals to changing diapers, to making sure everyone takes baths—there’s a lot that goes into looking out for a child’s well-being.
However, while the essentials are undoubtedly— well, essential, there are little things that are also just as important that we may not always consider. After all, it’s the little things that add up the most, so if you can manage to make small consistent efforts every day you can significantly make a difference in your child’s life.
Not only will your relationship flourish, but you may see significant differences in your child’s emotional and social development. Here are five things that you should do with your kids every single day.
Share A Meal Together
Sitting at the table and sharing a meal together at least once a day is vital for connection. It doesn’t matter whether it’s breakfast or dinner, the idea is having a family meal and a sense of routine. It’s an opportunity to ask how things are going, and have a serious talk or a small chat.
Use this time to check in on each other’s world and discuss the world around you. Studies showed that families that eat at least one meal together a day are much closer, and their children are much less likely to get into concerning behavior like crime or drug experimentation.
Not to mention, it’s an opportunity to teach your children about nutrition. It’s a great time to model positive eating habits, and encourage your children to try out new flavors and foods.
Encourage Curiosity
Children are naturally curious creatures, and want to explore the world around them. It’s only as we get older that we start to become less curious as we are trained to keep to ourselves and behave. This natural sense of curiosity starts to waver, and we are less inclined to step outside of our comfort zones. That’s why it’s so important for you as a parent to continue to encourage this curiosity in children.
Go on an adventure together, and go explore something! Teach your children that they should never stop wondering about the world around them, and there’s never anything that can’t be explored. Whether it’s watching a show together, or going on a walk in a new place, try to encourage your children every single day to learn or experience something new.
Offer Words of Support
The world is a difficult place, and there’s all sorts of critique coming at us regardless of our age. Whether we color outside the lines and preschool, or we missed the deadline at work, no one is perfect and things come up from time to time that make us question our worth. This is why it’s so important that you offer words of support to your children every day. Let them know how awesome they are, and how much you love them. This will encourage their confidence not only in their childhood but also as adults.
